This workshop will be delivered by Al Halewood, Joby Davis and Pete Nellist, if you are an AMI or MTA member you will be able to apply for CPD. 

Overview of workshop

  • What floorwalkers need to know.
  • What floorwalkers need to be able to do.
  • A system for how floorwalker should intervene.
  • How COVID-19 impacts on what Floorwalkers need to do.

Schedule

  • 1000 – 1015 – Introduction
  • 1015 – 1030 – Background
  • 1030 – 1130 – Session 1 – soft skills delivery + 15min Q+A
  • 1130 – 1200 – Break
  • 1200 – 1300 – Session 2 – hard skills
  • 1300 – 1400 -Q+A and summary

Joby Davis 

Joby is a Winter Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor and Development Coach based in the Midlands.   He specialises in providing Technical Advice and support to Artificial Climbing centres in the UK and overseas.  Joby also is a Technical Expert to the ABC Training Trust, and a member of the NICAS Coach Development Team, as well as undertaking legal work relating to climbing relating claims.   As a Mountain Training Course provider for the majority of their awards, including the Coaching Scheme, Joby was also heavily involved in developing COVID Secure guidelines in the current pandemic.  He is a contributor to publications such as The Professional Mountaineer and numerous current industry texts.

Alan Halewood

Alan is a Winter Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor and Development Coach based in Fort William. As well as teaching climbing and mountaineering year round he provides Technical Advice and support to Artificial Climbing centres in Scotland. A Manager at 2 different climbing walls, Alan is also a Technical Expert to the ABC Training Trust, a NICAS Coach an AMI workshop provider and mentor and also a trainer for staff working on MTS courses. He works on the full spectrum of Mountain Training qualification courses and is a provider of the climbing related awards up to RCDI. Alan has been involved in developing COVID Guidance for AMI, ABC, NICAS and Mountaineering Scotland during the current pandemic.

Pete Netlist

Pete is a Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor based in Stirling. He works full time for Active Stirling as their climbing Development Officer. This involves managing the climbing facility and its day to day running, and also developing climbing in the community. He is a board member of the Association of British climbing walls and part of the NICAS Coaching development team. Pete has been working on the better belaying campaign with the ABC and national governing bodies.
